The seven of them sat around a campfire together at the front of their cabin. Fish had taken a short nap and was now officially cut off. He admitted that it had been too much and perhaps his ancestors had a bit more practice than he did.
The couples of Magnis and Laura along with Ginger and Ken were sitting close together by the fire. Fish was nursing some water to help with his hangover. Yang and Hillary sat by themselves enjoying the night with the company of their friends.
“Does anyone want to go swimming tomorrow?” Ginger asked cuddling closer to Ken as encouragement to answer the way she wanted him to.
“The Ken is up for it, anyone else?”
“Fish here is from a long line of champion swimmers, right bud?” Magnis said nudging Fish.
“If only your head was as smart as your mouth,” he said slouching badly and taking another sip from his bottle of water.
Magnis chuckled, “Glad to hear your back with us.”
“I’d rather be sleeping.”
“Go ahead and turn in if you want,” Laura said kindly. “I’d rather you feel better for tomorrow than sit here feeling like crap.”
Hillary jumped up from her seat. “I’ll help you inside. I was just about to go get one of those leftover burgers you grilled.”
Fish gagged at the mention of food. “Ugh, just don’t take it out till I’m in bed. Last time I saw it, it was outside of my stomach.”
Hillary giggled and jumped over to him. The two went inside together with Fish walking slowly, his arm over Hillary.
“You take your injection sweetie?” Laura asked Magnis. “You were going to this morning but I made you finish packing, I think you forgot to after.”
“Shoot. I did forget.”
“Yah. For my S.O.U.L yah know,” he said flexing his biceps.
“I don’t understand what you mean Magnis.”
“As I’m sure you felt, I punch pretty hard,” he paused a moment, “well, I didn’t actually smack you that hard the last time. The enhancements Fish and I have allow us to hit harder and faster but we have to build up endurance or we’ll break our bones and skin. These injections help strengthen them.”
“Interesting. Do you have to have enhancements to take them?”
Magnis glanced down at his feet for a moment. He knew that Yang was going to ask if he could use one. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to share, but there was a certain amount of pride you had with needing them because you were equipped with S.O.U.L. Letting someone else use the injections without was seemingly pointless.
“I don’t know. I guess you could take them without.”
There was silence between the two of them and Magnis knew what he was thinking so figured he would just come out and ask it. “You want one? One dose isn’t really going to do much for you though.”
“Hmm, I’ve been using a type of mixture to do about the same thing to aid my cold-fire. What is the chemical compound used in it?”
Magnis looked at him dumbfounded.
Yang laughed. “Sorry, a scientist’s life is hard to stray from. I’m sure they couldn’t possibly react badly with each other.”
“Come on, I’ll get you one,” he said standing up and gesturing towards the cabin. He thought he’d ask Ken as long as he was giving one to Yang. “Ken, you interested in one?”
“Nah, The Ken doesn’t need your S.O.U.L or chemicals. The Ken does stuff the natural way.”
Being turned on by Ken talking about himself in such a proud manner, Ginger leaned closer to be under his big arm while stroking his chest lovingly.
“Alright, we’ll be back in a minute then,” Magnis said and Laura waved to him as Yang teleported off the log to walk next to Magnis.
On the way inside Hillary came walking out with a bottle of water in one hand, a pillow tucked under the other arm while holding a blanket. She was also biting on a hamburger while carrying all the stuff.
“Hillary, why don’t you just teleport yourself over to the fire instead of walking all the way there?” Yang asked.
She rolled her eyes clearly forgetting again that she had to power to do that and dissolved in the same way everyone who teleported did.
The two guys looked at one another and laughed briefly before entering the cabin.
Once inside they heard that Fish was already snoring.
Magnis dug in his pack and pulled out a chrome case. He opened it up and took out a bottle to show Yang. “Doesn’t have a label saying what’s in it, sorry.”
He shrugged.
“There is a bunch of clean needles so feel free to use one of ‘em.”
The two took the injections and returned to the campfire.
They got back in time to witness a comical event at the expense of Ginger. She was using her tether ability to playfully grab Hillary’s blanket from her. She didn’t take into consideration that the campfire was between the two of them and it started on fire as it passed over. It landed on her and she quickly jumped up and did a hilarious dance thinking she was on fire.
It wasn’t too long after that they all decided that it was time to go to bed. The decision was mainly due to Yang complaining about mosquitoes biting and flying around him. Strangely enough no one else seemed to be bothered by them.
“Hey Magnis,” Yang asked as they all stood up to turn in.
“Hmm?”
“Did you get blurry vision from these the first time you took them?”
“I don’t think so, why?”
“Things are just a little off for me, might just be this dang headache. Our injections must have a lot of similar compounds in them I hope my curiosity didn’t cause me to overdose.” He laughed, “And who knows what these mosquitoes are carrying.”
“You worry too much,” Laura said. “We could all use some rest.”
“You’re right Laura, goodnight all.” Without another word Yang teleported a few times until he was inside the cabin.
Magnis and Laura looked at each other and shrugged.
Everyone went to their beds and all was thought to be quiet.
55 Minutes Later…
Screaming rang out in the night. Laura woke up startled at hearting the noise.
“What was that?” Laura asked Magnis. He was unresponsive due to being such a heavy sleeper. Annoyed she shook him aggressively.
He woke up, the shaking not seeming any different to him than waking up by himself.
“Huh, what?” he said sleepily as he adjusted his pillow and sat up a bit.
Suddenly Hillary teleported just above them and flopped down into their bed, scaring the hell out of them.
“Hillary, what the--?” Laura yelled at her.
“Laura! Oh my God!” Almost in one breath she spewed out the next bunch of words, “I was attacked in my bed and I don’t know what was going on. I was just sleeping and Yang came to where I was sleeping and attacked me and it all happened so fast and I teleported over to another room and…”
“Woh, slow down Hillary,” Magnis said pulling his legs out from under her body. He stood up next to the bed in his boxers and stretched.
Hillary took a deep breath and with her eyes closed. She opened them and yelled, “Yang attacked me!”
Magnis looked over at Laura and she looked back at him equally confused.
“Are you sure?” Laura asked.
“Why would I say it if it wasn’t what happened?”
“Are you sure he wasn’t just trying to scare you?” Magnis said raising his leg and itching below his knee.
She shot Magnis a mean look. “Listen, when someone claws at you,” in a mocking tone she continued, “with hands all blazing, and…”
“Do you mind, you’re making my legs fall asleep,” Laura said trying to shift herself out from under her friend.
Hillary got off her and stood next to Magnis.
“When has Yang ever been someone to do something funny?” she asked getting frustrated at the two now. She sighed deeply, “I thought I was teleporting to Fish’s room. I wouldn’t have had to argue with him about what happened.” She smiled charmed by her thoughts, “He’s such a good listener and so cute too.”
Laura and Magnis looked gave each other the same look both being glad that they had been married a long time and didn’t have to deal with the liking of people along with the other relationship mumbo jumbo.
A sound of something hitting the wall was heard and the three of them looked at the spot just on the other side of Laura. She quickly got out of the bed in a spastic motion.
“You- ” Laura was cut off by Magnis.
“Go check on that? Sure, I’ll be right back,” Magnis said smirking.
He grabbed his pants from the off the floor and pushed his legs into them.
He walked over to the door and opened it up. He supported himself on the doorway and closed his eyes yawning big.
A body crashed into him knocking down on the floor between the two girls and behind them.
In the doorway stood Ken in a panicked state.
“Shit, sorry Magnis. Yang has gone nuts! He came into our room and started trashing the place.”
“See! See! I told you!” Hillary yelled frantically pointing at both Magnis and Laura.
Magnis got up from the ground. “Geez, last time I yawn with my eyes closed.” He stepped back over to everyone else was. “So where is he now?”
“The Ken knocked him out with a lucky punch.” He chuckled, “Did you hear the thud on the wall?”
“Yah, we did,” Laura said.
Magnis yawned again. “Well, hopefully he calms down when he comes to.”
“Should we tie him up or something?” Hillary asked. “In case he doesn’t.”
“He can teleport out of anything we bind him with so there wouldn’t be a point to it,” Laura said. “Besides, why wouldn’t he calm down?”
“A better question is what has gotten into him?” Magnis asked.
“Hey, is Ginger ok?” Hillary asked abruptly.
“She is watching over him right now,” Ken answered. “What do you think we should do about him?”
Laura pointed outside of the door. “Let’s go check him out to see if anything is wrong. He was complaining about something before we all went to bed you know.”
Hillary, being paranoid, turned on the lights when they got into the main room in the cabin. Everything was in its place; nothing looked abnormal as far as they could tell. They all moved on to the room that Ginger and Ken were sleeping in.
“Hey guys,” Ginger said as the room filled up with people.
The dresser looked like it had been knocked out of place and the mirror above the vanity was broken. Ginger probably cleaned up a little while she waited for Ken to get back.
In the corner next to the wall Yang was unconscious with a red mark on the side of his face where Ken had landed a fist packed with electricity no doubt.
“Is he alive?” Laura asked.
“Duh,” Ginger responded.
Laura walked over to Yang and leaned down to inspect him. She moved his face from side to side and heard his soft breathing. Nothing seemed abnormal with his head anyways.
From behind the crew heavy footsteps entered the room. Laura turned around and screamed.
