Spark: Cam and Get It!
Part 1
Cam looked at an address scribbled onto a piece of paper that some random bartender had given him.
“This is the place, right?” his muscular friend Magnis asked.
“The guy said it was a mansion and that we couldn’t miss it. What do you think?” he said in a sarcastic tone while gesturing wildly at the large exquisite house outside of their car.
They had traveled far away from base in search of new recruits for their cause. Going to a local bar if a town had one was the first things Cam always did. Usually those who considered themselves to be tough hung out there with others like them. Upon visiting a bar in Roseburg they didn’t see anyone even possibly promising. He had asked the bartender where he would look if he wanted to find someone to fight. The bartender looked at him oddly and Cam lied and said he had a complex about himself, just wanted to test out his skills. The bartender wasn’t the wiser and said that if he was looking for anyone in these parts that he would have to go to the Crest mansion. There was a gang that held up there and he was certain to find someone to knock his teeth out there.
Cam didn’t like the idea that they would be going to a gang for recruiting purposes. Usually the results of something like that only yielded delinquents, not fighters. Mentally he agreed to himself that he would go to this mansion anyways just to tell Dan that they scouted the area properly. If they did find a group of people who weren’t strait up criminals than perhaps they could get an alliance out of them. It would be up to Dan to ultimately decide what to do when they got back to Nowhere.
The two men got out of Magnis’ vehicle and walked up the pathway together.
Cam put both hands on top of his smoothly shaved head. “I bet you the S.O.U.L enhancements in your arms that they frisk us and take our weapons as soon as we walk in the door.”
“Whatever, I have my pair of hand cannons anyways. It’s not like we won’t get our stuff back when we leave.”
“You have to be prepared regardless. You think you’re pro at this recruiting thing because Dan lets you work alone most of the time, but you still don’t know any more than what a turd does hitting the water.”
Magnis stopped walking. “That doesn’t make any sense,” he stated.
Cam walked ahead simply shrugging without giving it any extra explanation. He thought to himself how he wished Magnis hadn’t changed so much in the past year. The guy used to be the first one to crack a joke in any situation, a real comical guy. Now he could barely get the guy to smile.
He sighed to himself and pounded his knuckles on the mansion’s door as Magnis caught back up to him.
They waited and no one came to the door. Cam knocked again and still nothing. He knocked much harder. Sounds finally came from behind the door and it opened up enough to reveal an average looking man peeking out at them.
“Geez, knock louder would you.” He grumbled to himself. “Killer hangover, know what I mean?”
Cam and Magnis said nothing.
“Well, don’t just stand there, what the hell do you want?”
Magnis answered, “We’re searching the area looking for someone who knows a thing or two about fighting. We were pointed in this direction.”
“Eh? You putting together a tourney or something?”
Cam squinted at the guy, “Are you in charge?”
“I asked the question first.”
Cam palmed the door hard enough to knock the man behind it over. He looked back at Magnis who merely rolled his eyes at him. Unlike Magnis, Cam took any opportunity to use his increased strength both from his training and enhancements, not just for fighting. The two of them walked into the building and saw the man was sprawled out on the floor.
“For fu-,” he didn’t get to finish what he was saying because Cam picked him up off the floor by the front of his shirt and scowled threateningly at him.
“Listen buddy, if you’re not in charge, I have no reason to answer any of your questions, you understand?”
At that Cam dropped him back on the floor. The man’s legs buckled under him and he flopped onto the floor.
“Alright I got it. Man, give a guy a break. You’re a bastard you know.”
Cam sighed, “Not like I don’t get that often enough.” Normally Magnis would have laughed after hearing the same words said to Cam that he always seemed to hear. He would have laughed about how Cam always responded the same way to them, but his mouth didn’t even twitch at an attempt to smile.
The man stood up and brushed off his shirt. “Ugh, my head,” he said as he closed his eyes and put his hand to his forehead. Opening only one eye he said, “Vincent is who you’re looking for. He is the guy in charge here.” He gestured for them to follow. “Come on yah dang meat heads.” He muttered more words and swearing to himself as he walked forward.
Cam looked back and motioned with his head for Magnis to follow between him and the other guy.
They walked through the hallways of the mansion until they got to their destination. The man wobbled a few times and had to stop and support himself on the way; all while holding his head the entire time.
Cam liked the feeling of being so deep inside the mansion. He always liked being underground at Nowhere’s base, so instead of feeling uncomfortable or on his guard he was feeling quite content.
The man took his hand off of his head and knocked on a door. They could all hear loud music playing from the inside of the room.
The door opened all the way up and a big dark man with even darker shades stepped out of the room and loomed over the hung over man.
“What do you want French?” said a deep voice.
“There’s a pair of guys here to see Vincent. They said they are looking for fighters of some sort, wanted to see the man in charge of our lot.”
The dark man lifted his shades and stared down both men. Cam crossed his arms threateningly while he eyed them up.
“Vincent has his lady friends over. He doesn’t want to be bothered by riffraff.”
Magnis stepped forward and spoke up. “Listen, we have a proposition for him. We don’t exactly go knocking door to door with this, so you better let us through.”
The dark man tightened his lips and pushed past French who took his place in the doorway. He stood close to Magnis and looked down on him being at least a good foot taller than he was. Cam closed his eyes for a moment and leaned against the wall with his arms still crossed.
The large dark man shoved Magnis causing him to fall down on the floor. He immediately got up and smiled big. Cam loved fighting but when Magnis went toe to toe with someone who didn’t know what he was capable of, it completed him in a strange way.
Magnis charged at the dark man and hit him across the face with his fist; he quickly changed the trajectory of his arm and railed his elbow back across the man’s check. He swung with his other arm into the side of his torso. The force of his combo and the speed Magnis executed it at threw the big guy of balance and into the wall.
He stood up strait again and swung a large fist at Magnis who didn’t make any effort to dodge it but instead caught it casually with his left hand. He applied pressure to the man’s fist and caused him to yell out in pain as his bones cracked.
“You care if we see this Vincent yet?”
French called over to them. “He just got a cheap move on yah Marcus, rough him up good.”
The dark man swung his other arm at Magnis and caught him in his lower jaw. Magnis’ head barely moved.
“Not good enough. Try again,” Magnis said as he crushed his fist a little harder.
Marcus lifted his foot off the ground and kicked Magnis in the side. Magnis made a noise at the hit but didn’t release his grip. He kicked Magnis twice more before his fist was let go of.
Magnis wasn’t being hurt by the kicks, but let go of him more out of annoyance than anything else, of that Cam was sure.
“Stop taking so long Magnis. Toss him threw a wall or something.”
“You think this is a game? I’ll show you,” Marcus yelled.
He swung his fists at Magnis and each attack was dodged. He tried again to kick Magnis and his leg was deflected with much force by Magnis. His foot dropped down on the ground hard and Magnis moved in to start his attack on him.
He started by teaching him a lesson for kicking him and stomped hard on his other foot. Marcus yelled in pain and his sunglasses dropped off his face. Magnis swung a hard fist into the man’s gut and he doubled over from the strength he put into it. Magnis grabbed him by the face and swung him around like he was a tire hanging by a rope from a tree. He maneuvered his hands to the back of his head and smashed it into the wall causing the wood to break around his face. Marcus’ arms went limp against his body.
Cam used his foot to lightly push himself off the wall and to stand upright again. “Hey French, you got it in yah to fight my boy here too, or you going to move out of the way?”
French grabbed his forehead. “I knew it was going to be a bad day when I woke up this afternoon, geez.”
