What do you do when you wake up with a mysterious gash on your back and find a corpse that resembles your wife? Well… believe your wife is dead; in any case that is precisely what Magnis does.
During the hopeless search for his wife Laura's murderers, Magnis falls into league with a group called Nowhere—a capable band of mechanically enhanced fighters with goals that will change the planet. Finding it within himself to move on, he dedicates himself to becoming an important part of Nowhere's proposed New World Order.
Soon, Nowhere is attacked by a strange and powerful collective named The Institution, a well-organized grouping of people able to tap into hidden powers of the brain they call a spark. They intend to purge the world of its current race ultimately evolve humanity—and they'll be damned if Nowhere's existence hinders their plans.
Unknown to Magnis, a vital detail lies within the walls of The Institution; Laura is alive and in possession of a spark.

She was taken by The Institution, a group of people able to tap into hidden powers of the brain they call a spark. They absorb Laura, as well as those like her, into their ranks to one day purge the world of all non-spark humans and ultimately evolve humanity.

Magnis meets the morning sun on the floor of his bedroom with a mysterious gash on his back. Subtle clues cause him to fear for the life of his wife Laura. Injured, but determined to find out what has happened to her, he makes his way downstairs only to discover an unidentifiable body. Mistaking the body for his wife he is devastated by her supposed death.
What really happened to Laura is that she has been assimilated into a group of people that have been able to tap into hidden powers of the brain they call a spark. They have reasons to believe that she is also like them and can help them on their mission to evolve humanity.
