Ken pulled himself up from the ground and saw that Magnis fighting Laura. The poor girl wasn’t attacking back and he didn’t know how long her shield would last taking the beating that Magnis was capable of giving.
He couldn’t believe that he had even found them. It was the most unlikely of scenarios; yet somehow it happened.
Ken ran at Magnis yelling his battle cry to distract him from Laura.
It worked and Magnis turned around in time to meet Ken’s fist across his jaw knocking him flat onto the asphalt.
Magnis recovered quickly and tried to sweep Ken’s legs out from under him. Ken expected it and jumped just in time to avoid it. As soon as he was back on the ground he kicked hard and hit Magnis in the side of the head. Ken’s kick was hard enough to cause Magnis to somersault backwards against an abandoned vehicle.
“The Ken will keep him busy. Make it back to the SUV and get out of here with Hillary.”
“No, I won’t leave you,” she said loudly.
“Cover your ears!” she called out to Ken.
Knowing what she was about to do he hastily covered his ears and backed away from her.
Laura saw the car flying at her and just when it was about to hit she screamed loudly expelling a tremendous amount of energy in all directions. Her telekinetic orb created a sonic boom and deflecting the car into the side of a random house like it was nothing.
Magnis or perhaps the worm itself became dazed making him hold his head.
Ken took this as an opportunity to charge at him with intentions of knocking him out with his electricity. He rushed swiftly past Laura at Magnis.
As the two men’s eyes lined up Ken swung with all his might at Magnis with a fist packed full of energy.
Magnis reached out and caught his fist. The electricity dropped him down to one knee suffering its effects.
Ken was about to finish him with a hit from the other fist when something pulled on him from behind and threw him down onto the ground. He slid across the ground past Laura unable to break free from whatever had him.
Laura looked behind her and saw Ginger was up and was using her tether ability to drag Ken across the ground at her. After she had pulled him much closer to her she pushed him away and thrashed him against the ground viciously.
Laura shot a wave of telekinetic energy at Ginger hoping to knock her down or disrupt her focus. Ginger held out her other hand and sent a forceful blast directly through Laura’s splitting its energy around her.
Laura continued to try to make her attack hit only to get the same results as the first. Ginger pulled Ken towards her and then pushed him back out at Laura knocking her over with his large body.
Before Laura’s body hit the ground Magnis was back up and slammed his fist into her gut.
Laura’s shield negated almost all of his punch but enough of it got through to make her scream out in agony. Her husband was defiantly very strong with being both muscular and having his S.O.U.L enhancements to multiply that strength.
Magnis’ strike sent Laura up into the air. As she fell back down to the ground she knew he was about to pull a combo on her and quickly got her shield back to full strength just in time to get a boot to the chest.
His kick was so hard that she dropped focus on her shield completely and started rolling violently across the pavement. Mid-roll she was able to put her shield back up only to lose it again when she crashed into a light post.
The post bent from her body being thrust into it. It showered the area over Laura with sparks when it crashed onto the ground.
Laura got up slowly. She was beyond pissed and deep into furious. She wasn’t bothered by fighting her husband anymore; it was that thing inside him that she was fighting and not him.
While Laura was getting off the ground Ken was feeling quite useless as Ginger flung him around bouncing him off of the ground. He tried multiple times to electrocute the area around him. Without any water or metal to make a connection to Ginger but it was futile to try to send any current through the ground.
His body was getting rather bloody and tore up from the pavement he kept being thrown into. Ginger was relentless when she was in control of herself but now that she wasn’t, mercy wasn’t a factor.
Finally he got his chance to attack back when she trounced him near a fire hydrant. He grabbed onto it and held on for all he was worth.
Ginger yanked at his body with her ability and it was enough for the hydrant to break loose from the pipe and start spraying water into the street.
He still had the hydrant in his hands and managed to hurl it precisely at Ginger. She hit it with a blast of her telekinesis hitting the edge of it causing it spin. Still in the direct path of the hydrant it made contact with her.
Ken dropped to the ground luckily onto his feet and quickly ran over to the pool of water that Ginger was now laying down in.
He leapt through the air reaching with his hand about to touch it; it crackling with energy as he soared through the air.
He was about to get close enough for the electricity to jump from his hand to the water when she grabbed onto him again with her tether ability. This time when she gripped onto him she pushed hard enough to send him twisting and flailing over one of the nearby buildings.
Ken landed on the ground over a block away from the fight. He got up and gripped onto his shoulder gritting his teeth in pain. The fall had dislocated his shoulder and he needed to set it before he could enter combat again.
He grabbed onto his arm and pushed up yelling in pain as it went back into place. He dropped on all fours taking only a moment to rest before he tried to get back to Laura.
Laura had enough. She wasn’t going to play this back and forth game anymore. She got up from the ground and pushed three fragments of her spark into piles of burning rubble.
Each pile of debris formed into a bear, gorilla, or panther.
Right after Laura created her familiars she saw Ginger throw Ken over a nearby building. She hoped he was alright and she hadn’t killed him and discarded his body. It was definitely a good thing that she had used this ability or she would be at an extreme disadvantage.
Laura thought that she would have a leg up on Magnis and Ginger when they randomly dropped to the ground lifelessly.
After a second it hit her and she knew this action as the worms coming out of them to multiply. Doing this was either an attempt to get Laura or… Laura’s eyes got wide with fear at the thought of them about to animate the dozens of bodies all over the street.
She willed her burning rubble animals to charge at the worms that had already began to shake violently. Her animals mauled and killed the worm that came out of Magnis.
She redirected them to attack the other worm but it was too late to stop it from multiplying. It exploded with more worms than Laura was immediately able to count.
Her animals slashed and tore at the worms but the new ones were doing the same thing as the first one from Ginger and were multiplying themselves as well. The ones that came out of those were wriggling their way into the bodies that were littered everywhere.
One of them crawled its way into Magnis while another made its way into Ginger.
Not needing to kill its host before gaining control of their motor skills the bodies of the dead as well as Magnis and Ginger all got up as soon as the worms were inside them.
Magnis was the first to rise and charged at Laura’s panther. He tore it in half and her spark piece returned to her.
She commanded the other two to attack him.
Magnis dodged the bear and caught the arm of the gorilla and tore it too in half. Its spark returned to Laura the same as the panther’s spark did; soon the bear would follow.
Laura gulped, feeling very uncomfortable. It wasn’t just Ginger and Magnis but at least thirty other people too. She searched her mind desperately thinking of something she could do to cut down their numbers or anything that would help her survive.
After separating the pieces of the bear Magnis bolted at Laura.
She backed up against the car she was standing next to. She felt the cold metal of the vehicle against her arms and thought that this was going to be the end of her.
Laura put her arms up above her head bracing for impact when someone grabbed onto her wrist and raised her into the air.
“I’ve got you Laura,” Hillary said. “Hold onto me!” she yelled and Laura did as she was told throwing her arms around Hillary’s neck.
Magnis crashed into the car to knock it out from under the girls.
With Laura holding onto her, Hillary jumped into the air when Magnis made contact with the car. With her only able hand she grabbed onto Magnis with her tether ability and pushed hard enough to propel them up into the air.
The girls floated through the air until they landed on top a nearby house.
Laura let go of her friend. “Hillary!” She crashed into her again giving her a big hug.
“Laura, save the gratitude, we have to get out of here,” Hillary said pointing at Magnis who had just broken down the door of the house they were standing on. He ran inside and would find a way to the roof soon.
The girls ran across the roof onto the next house and kept running down the street moving from rooftop to rooftop.
“Where are we running to?” Laura yelled.
“I don’t know,” Hillary responded.
Just then Laura felt something pass by her head. She looked down onto the street and saw Ginger attacking them rapidly with her telekinesis. Her missed attacks were hitting the sides of the roof spraying shingles up at the girls.
Thinking quickly, as they continued to run, Laura pushed some of her spark into some rubble behind Ginger.
Seeing her familiar creep up from the ground behind Ginger; Laura knew what was about to happen and couldn’t bear to look.
Moments later the attacks on them stopped and Laura’s spark fragment returned to her, its job being completed.
On the street below the girls they saw them the zombie people running down the street powerless to get up to them. Laura smiled and rolled her eyes at how normal people being controlled by the worms were pretty useless.
“Ahh!” Hillary yelled from her foot falling through a portion of the roof.
Laura stopped and turned around to help her back up but she was stuck.
The sound of breaking wood came from the roof of the house they started at as Magnis’ body exploded through it. Now on the roof he jumped from one roof to the next getting closer to them very rapidly.
Laura tugged on Hillary desperately trying to get her out of the hole she was stuck in.
Magnis was close enough now that Laura could see the reckless and crazy look in his eyes.
Just as he was about to reach them he fell through the same roof Hillary was stuck in simultaneously freeing her leg.
Laura pulled Hillary back to her feet and they kept running.
